Janina Jankowska’s account
Janina Jankowska, born May 1, 1939 in Jadów. A journalist and a reporter of the Polish Radio, since 1976 cooperated with the independent press. An author of the “Polish August” report, which documented the strike in the Gdańsk Shipyard. During the Martial Law she was put into internment and fired from work in the Polish Radio. She was the co-creator of the Phonographic Office – NOWA. In 1984 she was arrested, and after being let go she continues to cooperate with the underground press. After 1989 she is involved with the Polish Radio, and receives multiple awards (to name a few: Prix Italia, Polcul, Golden Microphone, Prix Europa and Grand Press) for her work as a reporter.
